Before he was Anderson .Paak, Brandon Anderson Paak was Breezy Lovejoy, a ridiculous name, particularly for a modern-day singer and rapper, but there’s also something beautifully old-fashioned to it. The moniker speaks to the basic philosophy that music should heal, that it is rooted in kindness. This belief seems to still be central to the 31-year-old’s character now that he’s Anderson .Paak, recent Aftermath signee.
A number of times I've listened to his albums all the way through. Legitimately one of my favorite albums ever was NxWorries-Yes Lawd! Paak is one of the most brilliant musicians out there, and probably my favourite as of now. His music is candidly relatable all because of his unique sound and sexy and raunchy yet melodic. It all adds up even with the underlying vocal snippets that set the tone. There's something for everyone from this "out of category" artist. See for yourself if you doubt it.
After hearing his contributions and collaboration with Dr. Dre on the Compton soundtrack, didn't really think much of his musical approach and there was a lot of positive feedback, so I was curious and after hearing a few streams online decided to give it a shot. Simply put, his music is my go to ever since and I am so GLAD because not only is the production varied and stellar especially in the modern R&B mold, but the songwriting is what comes through as the most impressive aspect. I like that its down to earth, relatable and endearing, and makes the listener empathize and ultimately root for him. Its a positive uplifting approach that is very much lacking in today's R & Hop landscape, and is a welcome breath of fresh air and you get a whole lotta music, GOOD MUSIC. Highly recommended.

This pick has aged well. Anderson .Paak went on to form Silk Sonic with Bruno Mars, whose single "Leave the Door Open" swept the 2022 Grammys, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and both major R&B categories. He's kept the NxWorries project going too: its 2025 sequel to Yes Lawd!, Why Lawd?, won Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2025 Grammys, tied with Avery*Sunshine's So Glad to Know You, the first tie in that category's history.
