Zimbabwe laughed at Mukadota and Gringo on ZTV long before anyone called it stand-up. Then the stages went quiet, until Book Café open mics, Carl Joshua Ncube's trailblazing and a wave of new names, women among them, rebuilt the industry one sold-out room at a time.
Nutty O's second album went to number one at home and sold out in Wolverhampton within days, with Nigerian and Jamaican features picked to open doors abroad.
Tocky Vibes dropped four albums at once this month, Tomonyongo, Bestie, Changamire and Nyabhagu, with 30 tracks each, a year after a launch that almost nobody attended.
