Is Android 12 The Best Version Yet?
With 3 Billion Android devices around the world now, android is taking bigger steps toward a more connected ecosystem of android devices. Watching this year’s Google’s I/O event, felt like the beginnings of a future with devices that are fully integrated. The 3 main themes they focused on android reflect these changes and we are going to look at them one by one.
Design
So first off, the new design for android 12 is a huge leap with Google’s Material design language really coming into its own. Material Design is a design language developed by Google in 2014. We have now been used to getting minor updates to our tech with sometimes getting 1 big feature but not much else. This is the same even with iOS. This means that Google is making a huge shift with Android. The presentation really showed off how customizable the interface will be to the extent of creating one-of-a-kind designs. What makes it a lot better than say a system where the user picks and chooses their colors etc is that your theme will be managed by an AI system that makes sure there is enough contrast in the design between text, backgrounds, switches, etc.
Security
Their second focus is security and this goes without saying, customers will go for a secure system any day, that’s a given. In the last decade, privacy has really come to the front with a lot of consumers wanting to make sure that their OS is not sending their personal data to third parties. Android 12 tries to hit these points by making sure the user has control over privacy and security setting. they have added a light indicator that shows when the camera or mic is in use. The camera and mic can also be quickly disabled using 2 switches in the quick settings. Sensitive audio and language processing now happens on the device to make it more secure.
Ecosystem
The third focus is interconnectivity between the multitude of android devices, from watches to phones, laptops, and cars. They showed off how easy it will be to work off a chrome book when you have your Android phone nearby. Signing in is faster much like the way you can sign in to your Gmail using a pop-up on your phone. To make sure you are not switching between your phone and laptop, you can have notifications from your phone show up on the laptop or even access the most recent photos from your phone on your Chromebook. Android phones are going to become a lot more integrated into your life with the ability to control your Android TV, your car, your house, etc.
Conclusion
Android 12 is definitely the foundation of what’s to come. A more personal ecosystem that is cleverly interconnected between devices. Your mobile phone will become a central part of your life, it will be able to interact with a whole lot of other devices making it easier to just go about your life. We cant wait to see what’s in store.
